My first fanfic ever: Chapter1

Chapter One: Carnival Island

“The big day is arriving. Soon I’ll have to go to Carnival Island and make sure nothing goes wrong for the opening day,” Knuckles, the red echidna, thought.

Carnival Island was a new section being added to the Floating Island. Since Knuckles guarded the Island, it was his job to protect the new attraction. Yet somewhere below, on the planet Mobius, an evil villain plotted to steal the Carnival’s source of energy. Guess who.

“But, Dr. Robotnick, are you sure that’ll work?” asked Needlenose, one of the Doctor’s mechanical misfits.

Dr. Ivo Robotnick, the mad scientist and dictator of Mobius, was busy at his computer.

“Yes, Needlenose, my plan is fool proof- so you can’t possibly ruin it! You see my latest invention- the Combi Confiner – will capture everyone on the Floating Island and imprison them! As soon as they’re all out of my way, including that Knuckles character, I’ll have the Power Emerald.”

“That’s a great idea, boss. How does the Combi … whatever work?”

Dr. Robotnick searched his brain for simple terms. “The machine lets out rays of light, and the light sucks people into it.”

“Cool! Great job, boss!”

“I know, I know. There’s only one problem.”

“What’s that, boss?”

“I need to find something to work the Confiner!”

At a far corner of the Floating Island, Knuckles sat, starring at the stars.

“I wish I didn’t feel so alone,” he said, “There are plenty of people here for me to talk to, it’s just that I…can’t.”

The next day, a young new commer, by name of Charmy Bee, buzzed around a bush of carnations. Charmy Bee came to the Island in search of new flowers. Charmy suddenly stumbled upon a lonely red echidna sitting all by himself, starting into space.

“Hello, there,” Charmy kindly greeted. Knuckles fell over in surprise. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

Knuckles said nothing, and the bee sadly turned away, thinking the boy was angry at him. Knuckles felt angry with himself and needed to say something – anything – to the sorrowful bug.

“Hey… I’m … Knuckles,” the words awkwardly rolled off his tongue.

Charmy’s face brightened. “Hello, Mr. Knuckles. I’m Charmy Bee.”

Knuckles was amused at the little bee’s cheerfulness. He felt better knowing that Charmy wasn’t sad anymore. Although he didn’t know it, Knuckles was forgetting his shyness around others.

“Are you here for the grand opening of Carnival Island, Charmy?” he asked.

“Why, no. I didn’t hear of that.”
“Well, it’s in three days. Maybe you’ll enjoy it,” Knuckles began to walk away.

“Where are you going, Mr. Knuckles?”

“Nowhere.”

“Then would you mind if I’d join you?”

Knuckles and Charmy strolled for the rest of the afternoon.  The day went by quickly as Knuckles grew more friendly with Charmy. They were becoming good friends. Soon, night fell and the two parted ways and headed for home. Knuckles stopped and looked up at the sky.

“Thank you,” he whispered.

The night slowly turned to day, as Knuckles rose bright and early. He wanted to do something special for his new friend. He decided he would give Charmy a tour of Carnival Island before its opening in two days. Charmy was delighted.

It was afternoon by the time they reached the Carnival. Knuckles was busy inspecting one of the new rides as Charmy approached him with some rather disturbing news.

“I think I saw Dr. Robotnick!” he announced.

“Where?!” This isn’t what Knuckles needed now.

“Over there, in the trench-coat!”

Sure enough, when Knuckles turned to look, it was the evil Robotnick. Knuckles grabbed Charmy and they hid behind a roller-coaster.

“I wish I was closer so I could hear him better.” Knuckles said.

“Isn’t that an invasion of privacy?” Charmy asked.

“Considering the person involved, not at all.”

Charmy zoomed as close to Robotnick as he could get without being detected. Knuckles stayed behind.

“Needlenose, Poptank, you have your orders! In two days, when night falls, we will return and steal the Power Emerald. I found these few rings I had taken from Sonic a while back and they can be used to work the Confiner. I will start it tonight. By the time the park opens, I’ll have the entire population of the Floating Island in my prison!” he snickered.

“Oh, Knuckles, this is terrible!” Charmy cried as he returned, “Dr. Robotnick is going to kidnap everyone on the Floating Island! After he has everyone, he is going to steal the Power Emerald!!”

“What?!! When?!!”

“In two days! Before  the Carnival opens!”

“We’ve got to stop him!”

“But how are we supposed to do that? There are only two of us! That Doctor has an army!”

“We’ll just need to gather some help, that’s all.”
As the evening approached, Knuckles and Charmy tried to ask others for their assistance. No one would help or believe them. Suddenly, a beam of yellow light shot across the night sky. It slowly came down and began to attack the Floating Islanders. They were disappearing.

“What’s going on?” Knuckles asked.

“The Combi Confiner! Dr. Robotnick must’ve activated it!” Charmy cried.

The beam of light headed toward them, and Knuckles and Charmy darted away. Knuckles helplessly watched the people vanish into thin air.

“I wish they would’ve listened! I wish…” Knuckles was desperate. He needed help – fast!
